Six-time Nevada felon gets 30 years in prison for robbery
A North Las Vegas man who robbed a convenience store with a long-barreled shotgun in 2011 was sentenced Thursday to 30 years in federal prison.
Tracey Brown, 40, a six-time felon in Nevada, was convicted by a jury in 2015 of three felony counts — interference with commerce by robbery, brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and felon in possession of a firearm.
“We focus our federal prosecutions of persons who are committing commercial store robberies on those who have prior serious felony convictions,” Nevada U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden said in a statement after the sentencing. “These persons are more appropriately handled in the federal system, where there is no parole.”
Prosecutors said Brown used the shotgun to rob a convenience store on South Rainbow Boulevard in Las Vegas in July 2011.
The investigation was led by the FBI and Las Vegas police.
