Las Vegas police officer charged with sexual assault

Updated June 14, 2018 - 10:34 pm

Prosecutors charged a Las Vegas police officer on Wednesday with sexual assault.

Metropolitan Police Department officer Manuel Gutierrez, 37, was arrested Saturday, the department’s public information office announced.

Gutierrez has worked for the department since February 2014 and most recently was with the Community Policing Division’s South Central Area Command. He has been relieved of duty without pay.

Court records indicate prosecutors charged him Wednesday.

Defense attorneys lobbied for him to be released on his own recognizance or for his bail to be set relatively low, according to court records. Prosecutors sought for Gutierrez’s bail to be set at $300,000, but his bail was ultimately set at $25,000, the records show.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled Aug. 30.
