Las Vegas substitute teacher charged with lewdness, sex acts involving student
A Clark County School District substitute teacher has been arrested on charges involving sex acts with a student and lewdness with a child.
Randall L. Minyard, 65, was arrested Friday after an incident at Sandy Miller Elementary Magnet School of International Studies was reported the previous day, district spokesman David Roddy said.
Las Vegas police records show that several fifth-grade girls reported Minyard for making them feel uncomfortable. One girl said the substitute poked her nipple, and other girls said he patted them on the back or shoulder. One girl told investigators the teacher told her she was the prettiest and smartest girl in class.
The girls said he did not act the same way toward the boys in the class, records show.
Minyard was hired by the school district Jan. 30 and was immediately terminated following his arrest, Roddy said. The spokesman said Thursday was Minyard’s first and last day at Sandy Miller.
Minyard told police he was playing a game and did not touch the girl’s breast. He told police the girls who accused him were “looking for attention,” have “a chip on their shoulder,” and were high-fiving each other after turning him in, records show.
Minyard declined to participate in a polygraph examination and refused to give a DNA sample.
Minyard was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on two counts of sex act by an adult school employee with a student and one count of lewdness with a child younger than 14, according to jail records.
