Assistance center shifts mission to recovery after Las Vegas shooting
The Family Assistance Center set up to help family members of victims of the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting has shifted its mission to focus on helping survivors heal and move on.
Following the identification of all 58 victims of Stephen Paddock’s rampage, the center on Friday established a new hotline to assist survivors of the mass shooting. Local callers should dial 702-455-2433, while out-of-state callers should dial 1-833-299-2433. The call center will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time.
The center, located inside the south hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, also will remain open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until further notice, according to Clark County Fire Department Chief John Steinbeck. Services offered include assistance with lodging, travel and transportation, grief counseling, legal services and on-site child care.
Steinbeck said that any undocumented survivors or their family members should not be afraid to seek assistance. Calling the center a “safe space,” he said no immigration status checks will be conducted.
