Las Vegas shooting victim: Arthur ‘Arty’ Andrade Jr., Las Vegas

Updated October 5, 2017 - 11:57 am

An Arbor View High School graduate was among the more than 520 concertgoers injured during the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip.

Arthur “Arty” Andrade Jr. and his girlfriend were at the concert on a double date Sunday night when the shots rang out. His father, whom the 21-year-old Filipino-American from Las Vegas is named after, said his son was rushed into emergency surgery for a gunshot wound to his stomach.

It wasn’t until Monday night, Arthur Andrade said, that the doctors treating Arty at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center confirmed he was moving toward a full recovery.

“We are very blessed that all four of them made it out alive,” Andrade said. “A lot of families were not so lucky, and my heart goes out to them.”

The father of three said he was watching the news unfold Sunday night, not knowing his youngest son was at the concert.

“About 20 minutes into watching the news, my phone rang and it was his friend’s name on the phone screen,” he said. “He told me that Arty got shot.”

Andrade said his two older brothers, Nicolas Andrade, 22, and Alex Andrade, 24, haven’t left his bedside since Sunday night.

“He’s the youngest, so he’s truly a junior,” his father said. “His brothers really love him.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help with Arty’s medical expenses.
