Man wounded in central Las Vegas Valley shooting

Updated November 17, 2023 - 3:56 pm

About a dozen Las Vegas police officers, one holding a shield and another a rifle, were seen entering an apartment where a man was shot several times Friday in the central Las Vegas Valley.

The shooting occurred just before 10:45 a.m. at the Siegel Suites Swenson apartment complex in the 4000 block of University Center Drive, just north of East Flamingo Road, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release.

The victim was transported to the hospital but his condition was not immediately available.

After entering the apartment, the officers — who had used a loudspeaker to ask any occupants of the unit to come outside — came back out alone and started to remove crime scene tape from an area in between two buildings in the complex.

One resident, Richard Coleman, 60, said he was in his apartment when he heard four gunshots. Police arrived soon afterwards.

“The officers told us we had to evacuate the building,” said Coleman, who estimated that about 30 to 40 people had to leave.

An ambulance took someone away from the complex, but Coleman said he did not know who it was.

A police spokesperson said in an email the incident remains under investigation and no updates were available late Friday afternoon.
