Officer-involved shooting investigated in North Las Vegas

Updated August 11, 2019 - 1:46 pm

North Las Vegas police are investigating after an officer fired at least one shot Sunday morning during a traffic stop.

About 8:30 a.m. Sunday an officer pulled over a vehicle near the 215 Beltway and Range Road, police spokesman Eric Leavitt said.

The officer attempted to stop a Ford F250 pickup that was speeding eastbound on the Beltway, between Pecos Road and Lamb Boulevard, according to a police release Sunday night.

The driver failed to stop, lost control on the Beltway near Range, then “accelerated toward the officer,” the release said.

The officer fired at least one round before the driver fled, police said. The driver was stopped and taken into custody nearby at Range and El Campo Grande Avenue.

No one was injured, police said.

North Las Vegas police plans to release more information at a news conference within three days.
