Police arrest suspect in east Las Vegas shooting

Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal Friday shooting in the east valley.

Michael Rusk, 28, was arrested Friday and booked into Clark County Detention Center with on charges of murder, conspiracy murder and conspiracy to commit murder and robbery, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

Just after 2 p.m. Friday, Metro patrol officers responded to an apartment complex at 451 N. Nellis Blvd., near Bonanza Road. A man pulled into a space in the parking lot of the complex where three men in a white Kia sedan were waiting for him, police said.

As the man got out of his car, the three men in the Kia pulled up next to him, and two men stepped out of the sedan and fired numerous rounds at the man, according to police. The man, who has not yet been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office, was taken to University Medical Center where he later died.

Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said that a patrol officer responding to the shooting saw the Kia leaving the complex and began pursuit.

The Kia sustained a flat tire during the chase, at which point all three occupants fled, police said. The two passengers ran off, but the driver ran toward a woman and robbed her, taking her cellphone and running into a nearby apartment complex, McGrath said.

Inside the complex — the Cedar Village Apartments at 2850 E. Cedar Ave. — police said the man kicked in the door to a second-floor apartment and hid. When officers surrounded the complex, the man jumped from the balcony and was taken into custody, police said. He was taken to UMC to be treated for injuries he sustained from the second-story fall.

The two passengers involved in the incident were not apprehended Friday, police said. They were both described as black men, with one described as 5-feet, 5-inches tall with dreadlocks and the other described as heavy-set, according to police.

Metro said the fatal shooting was the 78th the department has investigated in its jurisdiction for 2016.
