Police arrest suspects in connection with barricade incident

Several suspects have been arrested Wednesday morning in connection with a barricade situation Tuesday near Fremont Street.

Police are not able to confirm if barricade suspect David Encinas was included among those arrested, Metro spokesman Danny Cordero said.

Police surrounded a home after 6 a.m. on the 1300 block of Elizabeth Avenue, looking for Encinas, Cordero said.

Encinas is a suspect for a shooting that occurred just at about 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of South 11th Street. He is also suspected of barricading himself in a hotel room near Fremont and Bruce streets, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

Police reported that there were no injuries. Evacuations were made at a nearby hotel, Meltzer said.

Metro’s SWAT unit was on the scene. Fremont Street was closed between Bruce and 21st Streets. Lewis Avenue was closed at Bruce Street. Streets reopened just before 11 p.m. Tuesday.
