Police: Man shot and killed by officer at Las Vegas Boulevard hotel

Updated December 9, 2024 - 9:04 am

Police shot and killed a man they say was suicidal and charged at them at a Las Vegas hotel.

The shooting occurred at about 10 p.m. Sunday at a hotel in the 9700 block on Las Vegas Boulevard South, according to a Metropolitan Police Department news release and briefing.

Metro did not name the hotel in their release, but the South Point is in that block.

Police received a report of a suicidal man in a hotel room, according to Metro. Security tried to check on him, but received no response and when they attempted to enter the room, heard what sounded like the racking of a gun.

Police said they tried to negotiate with the man, but after several hours, he exited the room armed with a long gun. Officers told him to drop the gun, but he charged and an officer shot him.

Officers “rendered aid,” but the man was pronounced dead.

This is the 16th officer-involved shooting of 2024.

Metro will identify the officer after 48 hours.

Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to contact Metro’s Force Investigation Team at 702-828-8452. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
