Woman accused of slashing friend faces attempted murder charge

A woman accused of slashing her friend with a box cutter told her friend she didn’t care if she died, according to court documents.

An arrest report indicates police arrested Katzieda Brass, who booking logs suggest is in her 30s, on an attempted murder charge at 7 p.m. Aug. 18, the day after detectives said she fought with a friend of hers. Metropolitan Police Department identified the assailant as Brass through multiple interviews.

The attack sprouted from a previous altercation between Brass and her friend at an emergency clinic a month before the fight Aug. 17, according to the report.

Police were called about 9:30 p.m. Aug. 17 to the area of J Street and Wyatt Avenue, near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Owens Avenue. They arrived but found no crime scene. They later learned an injured woman had a friend take her to University Medical Center.

The injured friend said Brass first punched and then slashed and stabbed her, adding she thought she was going to die if she didn’t run from the attack.

“(The friend) stated Katzieda said she didn’t care if she killed (the friend) or not,” the arrest report said.

Brass later told detectives her friend was the instigator and brought the box cutter. She said she took the box cutter from her friend and started slashing.

“Katzieda even admitted that she went too far and was excessive,” the arrest report reads.

Metro officers learned Brass and her friend had planned to fight at 2 p.m. at a nearby park, the arrest report said. The pair met later that night near Wyatt Avenue, where the fight occurred.

The injured friend had several cuts all over her body and a “deep puncture” on her right hand, the report said.
