99 Words About … The je ne sais quois of ‘The Returned’

Of all the zombie-related projects you’ll see this year, “The Returned” (9 p.m. Thursday, Sundance Channel) is among the classiest.
It’s certainly the Frenchiest.
The subtitled drama focuses on a mountain town in France where a few residents mysteriously come back from the dead.
Not a groan. Not a stagger. Not a bit of rotten flesh.
They just show up, years or even decades later, unaware they’ve died, but a bit “off.”
It’s a haunting, captivating, original look at the genre.
And just think how cultured you’ll sound mentioning it whenever someone starts rambling on about “The Walking Dead.”
