Double-barreled holiday cheer is coming at Las Vegans starting this weekend at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Opening tonight for a three-weekend run, Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" gets the Nevada Conservatory Theatre treatment at the Judy Bayley Theatre on campus at 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. Bahhumbugging his way through the classic is UNLV professor and professional actor Michael Tylo as Scrooge, with Jordan Bondurant as Bob Cratchit and a sprawling supporting cast.
See ol' Ebenezer's redemption at 8 p.m. today, Saturday, Thursday, Dec. 9-10 and 15-17 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 and 18. Tickets are $20-$30.
Meanwhile, a one-time holiday hoedown happens Saturday across the way from the Bayley Theatre at the Artemus Ham Concert Hall.
"Broadway Holiday," courtesy of composer/lyricist Neil Berg, is part of the New York Stage and Beyond series, featuring tunes from shows including "My Fair Lady," "Chicago" and "Wicked."
Aided by a trio headed by Berg on piano, the revue -- starring a quintet of accomplished Broadway performers including husband-and-wife duo Ron Bohmer and Sandra Joseph -- will honor a who's who of Great White Way composers. Expect a repertoire of Kander and Ebb, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin.
Catch the show-tune cheer at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35, $50 and $75. For both "Broadway Holiday" and "A Christmas Carol," get more information or purchase tickets by calling 895-2787 or visit pac.unlv.edu.
