‘A Christmas Story’ goes from reel to real

From that coveted Red Ryder BB Gun to the prized lamp in the shape of a shapely leg, the 1983 movie “A Christmas Story” has inspired a devoted following — along with a stage adaptation opening Dec. 12 at Las Vegas Little Theatre.

Based on humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoir of his 1940s Midwestern boyhood, “A Christmas Story” follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker’s quest to get that BB gun — despite numerous warnings that “you’ll shoot your eye out!”

Restaging favorite scenes from the movie, “A Christmas Story” includes everything from the family’s temperamental exploding furnace to the Parker boys’ discovery of what happens when a wet tongue meets a cold lamppost. Emily Fagan-Baker directs a cast that includes Ken Haley as Ralphie, Konnie Baldwin as his mother and David Elliott as his father, better known as the Old Man.

“A Christmas Story” will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 and Dec. 13 and 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at Las Vegas Little Theatre, 3920 Schiff Drive; additional performances are at 7 p.m. Dec. 18-20 and 2 p.m. Dec. 21.
