Ballroom dancing and a performance by Esteban and Theresa Joy among February First Friday highlights

The monthly First Friday downtown Arts District festival is scheduled from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday. Many area galleries also open for Preview Thursday openings. This month's theme is the Art of Romance. Scheduled activities and gallery shows include:

-- "Another Time, Another Place," a suite of photographic work by Charles Morgan, is scheduled to be the opening exhibit at RTZvegas at Arts Square, 1017 S. First St. An artist's reception is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The photos, taken more than 16 years ago, were created through in-camera color separations and rendered through four-color Xerox transfers. RTZvegas was launched by Richard Hooker, who spent more than a decade working for the city of Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs before leaving the position to develop the gallery. -- The Chuck Jones Experience is set to return to the Kidzone at California Street and Casino Center Boulevard. RagTag Entertainment plans to present kids performances there from 5 to 9 p.m.

-- Ballroom dancing and free painting classes are scheduled from 5 to 10 p.m. in The Hub on Casino Center Boulevard, north of Colorado Avenue. Esteban and Theresa Joy are set to perform from 6 to 7 p.m. at The Hub.

-- The Delivering Happyness bus is scheduled to park on Casino Center Bouldevard. Outside the bus, a hopscotch party is scheduled from 5 to 10 p.m.

-- Learn about urban gardening, renewable energy and water conservation in the Green Zone on California Street and Casino Center Boulevard.

-- Live entertainment includes performances throughout downtown by Haleamano, Emannuel, Siren Strings, Sabried, Bridge, Kaela Victoria, Flameology, Jinxemgood, Doug Elliot, DJ John Kamahele and DJ Duane King.

-- 303 North Studio, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., Suite 115, is planning an opening reception for "Pure Pigments" from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A closing reception is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 24. Call 702-742-6242.

-- The Contemporary Arts Center in The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., is set to unveil Mike Davies' "Into the Light" with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Visit lasvegascac.org.

-- Artist and gallery owner Anne Stein is set to present her latest abstract work, "The Passionate Embrace, An Artist and Her Art," opening from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd. Visit asteinarts.com.

-- Jana's Redroom's is scheduled to open in its new location near the back entrance of The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., with a show by 3 Baaad Sheep, featuring the collaboration pieces of Alexander Sky, Eddie Canumay and Alexander Huerta.

-- Sam Davis' "Modern Love," following his central character Astrobot in his continued quest for love, is scheduled to open Thursday at the Trifecta Gallery in The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd. Visit trifectagallery.com.

n Brett Wesley Gallery, 1112 S. Casino Center Blvd., is set to continue Eric Burwell's "Big Words" through Feb. 23. Visit brettwesleygallery.com.

-- "Art, Love & Music," featuring the work of Erica Hendrickson, Don Leonard and Guadalupe Ousley, is scheduled to fill the main gallery at the City of the World Gallery, 1229 S. Casino Center Blvd. An artist reception with music from the Gateway Arts Foundation music scholarship winners is scheduled at 5 p.m. Feb. 9. Program admission is $5. Visit cityoftheworld.org.
