Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with events across the valley
Hispanic Heritage Month begins on Sept. 15, and events across the Las Vegas Valley are being held all month long and into December to celebrate Latino culture and history.

Latino artists playing Mexican Independence Day week

SNHD to host diabetes education classes in Spanish

The Southern Nevada Health District is hosting classes in Spanish to help inform those with type 2 diabetes or who are prediabetic learn about diabetes self management.
Diabetes prevalence in Hispanic adults was slightly higher (12 percent) than in non-Hispanic white adults over 18 (11 percent), SNHD said in a news release.

DEA agent’s widow discusses husband’s death at Mob Museum

Mika Camarena, widow of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camerena, discusses her husband’s disappearance and death by members of a Mexican drug cartel in 1985.
Enrique pursued marijuana and cocaine traffickers during his career, and was close to exposing the leaders of a billion-dollar drug network before his death, according to the Mob Museum.
For Hispanic Heritage Month, Mika will discuss how to tragedy impacted her family and the war on drug traffickers, the Mob Museum said in a news release. Those interested in attending can RSVP on the Mob Museum’s website. A livestream will also be available to watch on the website.
Dance and History: Celebrating Nicaragua

Watch live music, Aztec dancers and lowriders at this event celebrating Chicano culture.
The festival will also feature food and retail vendors, a children’s play area and live art.

Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff Celebration at City Hall

Mayor Goynes-Brown and other North Las Vegas City Councilmembers will celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month with the official ceremony of El Grito de Dolores led by the Consulate of Mexico of Las Vegas and present community awards and a proclamation for National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Del Sol Academy of the Performing Arts and Monaco Middle School, who won North Las Vegas’ first annual School Mariachi Competition this year, will also perform.
The event will also feature food vendors and other activities.
Movies in the Park — Encanto
