Contemporary Dance Theater opens new season

Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater launches its fifth season this weekend at West Las Vegas Library Theater, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd., with "Vespers" by legendary choreographer Ulysses Dove.

The fall concert also will see the return of "Brethren," the founding artistic director's first work for the company, along with Las Vegas favorite "Mood Indigo."

Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $40 and are available at lvcontemportarydancetheater.org or by calling 366-9436.

"Vespers" is danced by six women with no props except half a dozen wooden chairs. "Brethren" premiered in 1997 as a dedication to male dancers lost in the fight against AIDS. "Mood Indigo" is a tribute to legendary choreographer Alvin Ailey with music by Duke Ellington and Dave Brubeck.
