County TV station to air poet laureate program

Back to the future — at least when it comes to U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera's Southern Nevada visit.

Last month, Herrera gave a reading at Nevada State College.

Starting next week, those who missed the presentation will be able to catch it on Clark County TV throughout November.

Herrera's reading was part of the "Poets of National Stature," a program initiated by Bruce Isaacson, Las Vegas' and Clark County's first poet laureate.

Herrera marked his Nevada debut after the Library of Congress appointed him the 21st U.S. Poet Laureate in June. The first Latino poet to serve as poet laureate — and previously California's Poet Laureate — Herrera has written 28 volumes of poetry, young-adult novels and children's collections.

His hourlong presentation will start airing at 8 a.m. Nov. 3 on Clark County Television (CCTV), which is available locally on Cox cable's Channel 4 (Channel 89.13 for those without converter boxes) and on CenturyLink. It's also available in Laughlin on Channel 14 via CMA Access, and online at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov.
