Online Burning Man tickets sell out within 30 minutes

RENO — Tickets to the Burning Man festival sold out just half an hour after they became available online.

More than 70,000 people vied to purchase 30,000 tickets, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.

The $390 tickets went on sale Wednesday.

Burning Man is an annual arts gathering in Northern Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. In the early 1990s, it was attended by only a few hundred people. Since 2011, however, it has attracted tens of thousands.

The festival’s 2016 theme is “da Vinci’s Workshop.” It will be held Aug. 28 to Sept. 5.

Burning Man spokesman Jim Graham says another 500 tickets will be made available in the future for $1,200 each. There will also be a ticket exchange program run by the festival beginning in April.
