Philharmonic to premiere new work by Adler

A world premiere by Samuel Adler is on the program for the Las Vegas Philharmonic at 8 p.m. Saturday at Artemus Ham Hall on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

Tickets priced at $35, $50 and $75 are available at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office or by calling 895-2787.

Adler's "Drifting on Wind and Currents" was commissioned for the orchestra by Lewis Aronow in memory of his wife, Gladys.

Award-winning violinist Laura Liu, 17, will perform Max Burch's Violin Concerto. Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony rounds out the program.

A pre-concert conversation with conductor David Itkin and Adler will begin at 7:15 p.m. in the concert hall lobby. Adler, best known for the classic and romantic flow of his music, has composed more than 400 published works.
