‘Santaland Diaries’ opens at Onyx

Jamie Morris returns in the role of Crumpet, the jaded Christmas elf, in David Sedaris' one-man comedy "The Santaland Diaries" today through Dec. 10 at the Onyx Theatre in Commercial Center, 953 E. Sahara Ave.

Adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello and directed by Christopher Kenney, "The Santaland Diaries" is Sedaris' sendup of his brief, misguided career as a Macy's elf.

The show skewers the sentimental love of all things Christmas -- the happy children, the sprightly elves, the gifts, the good cheer. Sedaris' character reveals the other side of what it's like to work at Santaland, and the result is bawdy and irreverent.

"The Santaland Diaries" will be performed at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and at 5 p.m. Sundays. All seats are $20 and may be purchased by calling 732-7225 or online at onyxtheatre.com

Theatergoers may remember Morris for his portrayal of Hannibal Lichter in "The Silence of the Clams" last year at the Onyx. Morris also is the author of "The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode" and the "Life in Greasy Ride" series.
