Three-pronged arts program planned for Life Is Beautiful

From the Strip to the street, downtown’s Life Is Beautiful Festival will feature a wide array of arts presentations as part of the Oct. 26-27 event.

Festival organizers were scheduled to announce a three-part arts program today , with live performance art, street art and fine art as the components.

The festival’s live lineup features excerpts from several Strip shows, with Human Nature, Jabbawockeez and Recycled Percussion performers joining cast members from “Absinthe,” “Million Dollar Quartet” and “Rock of Ages.”

Segments from several Cirque du Soleil shows — from the oldest (“Mystere”) to the newest (“Michael Jackson One”) — were previously announced as part of the festival, along with “Criss Angel: Believe,” “Ka,” “Love,” “O,” “Zarkana” and “Zumanity.”

The street art program — dubbed “Rise Above” — will include murals, stencils and a giant show poster exhibition.

Many of the murals and stencils created for the festival will be completed live on-site, enabling attendees to watch artists at work. And many of them will remain after the festival closes.

Las Vegas-based Aware joins visiting muralists Ana Maria, D*Face , La Pandilla , Vhils and Zio Ziegler ; stencils will be created by the New York-based Stencil Network.

Poster art, inspired by vintage show posters, has been commissioned for the festival from Brazil’s Bicicleta Sem Freio .

The festival’s fine art component will be curated by Patrick Duffy, president of the Las Vegas Art Museum board.

The Life Is Beautiful Festival also includes music, food and learning components; for more information, visit www.lifeisbeautifulfestival.com.
