Arlene Hoag, author of "Do-It-Yourself Emergency Preparedness, How Ordinary People Prepare for Extra-Ordinary Events," will explain how to prepare for and survive potential disasters specific to Las Vegas at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Enterprise Library, 25 E. Shelbourne Ave. Hoag will also be available to sign her book.

A free Creative Media Workshop discussing creative writing, poetry, songwriting, screenwriting, publishing, Podcasting and more will be offered at 7 p.m. Thursday at Barnes and Noble, 8915 W. Charleston Blvd.

Grateful Dead founding member dies at 84

Phil Lesh, a classically trained violinist and jazz trumpeter who found his true calling reinventing the role of rock bass guitar as a founding member of the Grateful Dead, died Friday at age 84.
