DINING: ‘Top Chef’ viewing party, pickle-eating contest and more

Border Grill co-founder/co-chef Mary Sue Milliken continues her streak on Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters,” so the party — the viewing party — continues today (May 11) from 7 to 8 p.m. at her restaurant at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The “Que Before the Que,” an amateur barbecue competition, is scheduled for noon Saturday (May 14) at the Roadrunner at 9820 W. Flamingo Road, near I-215. The top three participants will gain entry to the USA BBQ Championships at The Orleans the following weekend. The public is invited to attend this Saturday’s event, which will include judging from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m. and public sampling from 3:30 until samples run out. ...

Taste of the Nation is scheduled for 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 19 at Rain nightclub at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road. Admission is $75, or $100 for VIP, which allows a 5:30 p.m. entry. About 40 restaurants and food trucks are expected to participate; proceeds will go to Three Square food bank, Project Mana, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and Chefs for Kids.
