Golden Nugget hosting weekend wine event

Wines from North and South America will go head to head this weekend at the Golden Nugget, 129 Fremont St., beginning with a dinner at 7 tonight on the pool deck. Tickets are $95 and include the Poolside Champagne & Wine Kick-Off from 8 to 10 p.m. (tickets for that event alone are $35).
Saturday’s events include two seminars in Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse, with a tasting of 12 South American wines beginning at noon ($35 per person) and an exploration of 12 Cabernets from Chile, Argentina and California at 2:30 p.m. ($45 per person; tickets for both are $75 per person). The Grand Tasting of 120 wines from California, Chile and Argentina, along with appetizers and live music, is 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday ($100 per person). And a Champagne, jazz brunch and wine auction is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday ($100 per person; 20 percent of ticket and auction sales will be donated to Three Square food bank), followed by “Wine Down with the Winemakers” at the pool ($25 per person). An Arts & Eats festival is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Village Square, 9400 W. Sahara Ave. (at Fort Apache Road). The $20 restaurant passport will provide samples of food and drinks from participating restaurants, with all proceeds donated to Three Square food bank. The event also will include live music and original works by 18 artists. Admission is free. ...
The Tax Collector will return Tuesday to Andre’s at the Monte Carlo, 3770 Las Vegas Blvd. South, but this one doesn’t involve as much pain as some. It’s The Tax Collector cocktail, which contains gin, dry vermouth and green chartreuse, and it’s $14. ...
