Hunt for Moon Pies uncovers bounty
February 24, 2010 - 12:00 am
Guy Roark, I hope you have an ice-cold RC Cola handy, because your fellow readers have found Moon Pies at sources that aren't as far south as Bass Pro Shops.
David McConnell found Moon Pies in bulk boxes at the Costco Business Center at 222 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., Mike Henderson said he found them a few months back at Smart & Final at 4439 W. Charleston Blvd. and Nina Hall found both regular and snack size -- and sometimes chocolate, vanilla and strawberry -- at the commissary at Nellis Air Force Base, for those who have commissary privileges. ...
For Donna Silva, who's looking for a restaurant with a good mulligatawny soup on the menu, McConnell recommended Mt. Everest India's Cuisine at 3641 W. Sahara Ave. ...
For Dennis Mackay, who's looking for a local restaurant that serves hot browns, Donna Tempelman e-mailed that she and her husband, Lenny, serve them at their Chef's Pantry Cafe at the Summit at 2215 Thomas Ryan Blvd. ...
For Alex Silver, who's looking for Australian Tim Tam cookies, Maryfrances Charnley noted that Pepperidge Farm now makes them. Barbara Stewart found them at Target at 3210 N. Tenaya Way and Barbara Antonucci at Smith's at 5564 Camino al Norte in North Las Vegas. ...
For Joyce O'Meara, D. Wyatt said pickling salt (and pickling lime) is available at the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 540 Marks St. in Henderson and at the Mediterranean Country Market at 3280 E. Tropicana Ave. ...
For Margaret Hanson, Scott Kagan e-mailed that Sammy's Woodfired Pizza, which has multiple locations in the valley, serves gluten-free pizza and is very kid-friendly. ...
For Lynn Callahan, Sheyla Rodriguez reported finding Goya chickpeas at Marianna's Supermarket at 2325 E. Cheyenne Ave. -- one of several Marianna's in the valley. ...
And as for the Knorr pork bouillon cubes that Jeanne Fermon is seeking, it appears they've been discontinued -- whether completely or just for U.S. markets is unclear -- but as Sue Bigsby noted they're still listed as available at www.PacificEastWest.com (or call 303-295-0293), and Henry David Kim of Anchorage, Alaska, said they're readily available at an Asian market there and suggests trying similar stores in Las Vegas. But you may want to act fast. ...
