Jalapeno jelly is a hot topic

Jellies definitely don't have to be overwhelmingly sweet; pepper jellies can be great on crackers -- or even on bread, if you're in a feisty mood in the morning. And today, in response to a request from Bonnie Knutson, we have several local sources for jalapeno jelly.

Aaron Mantz found it in the sweeter green and hotter red varieties at Walmart and Albertsons, Jan Madigan gets it at Bass Pro Shops at 8200 Dean Martin Drive, Randi Youngberg found it at the Van Dyke booth at the farmers market from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays at Bruce Trent Park at 1600 N. Rampart Blvd., and the Jensens at Village Meat and Wine at 5025 S. Eastern Ave. emailed that they carry it.

Lynn Kehre, owner of Miguels Homemade Salsa and More, said she makes five flavors of jalapeno jelly and sells it at the farmers markets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays at the Henderson Pavilion at 200 S. Green Valley Parkway, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at Tivoli Village at 302 S. Rampart Blvd. and from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays at Sansone Park Place at 9480 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson. ...

For Sherrie L. Pavlovic, who's looking for fig spread, Bonnie Wiezorek and Cindy Pitochelli recommended Trader Joe's, and Minnie Mistretta emailed that she finds it at Whole Foods Market and Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets. ...

For Bob Wathen, who's looking for frozen Bob Evans products, Cin Meanor wrote that she spotted some at Walmart at 7175 Spring Mountain Road. ...

For Jerry and Carol Schull, who are looking for instant polenta, Colleen Sams found Valsugana brand at Albertsons at 2650 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. ...

For Marty Boyd, who's looking for beef bacon, Lynn Shaw of Pahrump wrote that a few years ago she asked her local Smith's store for it and they've carried it ever since. ...
