Motown expatriates claim source for Sander’s Hot Fudge

After reading that Erik Moll is looking for Sanders Hot Fudge, beloved of Motown expatriates, some of his fellow Taste of the Town readers wrote to say it's not available in Southern Nevada, but others beg to differ. They would be those in the know about Detroit Motor City Coney Island Restaurant at 19 S. Water St. in Henderson.

Tom Rosa, Eric Blum, Sandra Green and Marie Maleske all recommended Detroit Motor City, with Blum noting that they carry both milk and dark chocolate, Maleske reporting that they also carry Faygo pop and Tom Rosa adding that Better Made Potato Chips are available there. Mary McDonald and Mary Sherigan also reported that the hot fudge and the full line of Sanders' products can be ordered at www.SandersCandy.com (800-651-7263). ...

For Dick Nuess, looking for a restaurant that serves short ribs, Terri Pringle emailed to recommend the chianti-braised short ribs at Buca di Beppo's three locations in the valley. ...

For readers looking for Peter Pan Peanut Butter in bulk, John Oertel emailed to report finding it in 6-pound containers in the bulk section of the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 540 Marks St. in Henderson. ...

Al Bianco emailed for Taste of the Town readers interested in quality canned tomatoes that the Tuttorosso brand is available at www.BuyTheCase.net (781-834-6560) at a reasonable price. ...

More on whole-bellied clams: Libby Casolari recommended P.J. Clarke's at the Forum Shops at Caesars, 3500 Las Vegas Blvd. South. (A note on last week's column: Monstah Lobstah in Henderson apparently recently closed.) ...

More on New York-style fried rice: Helene Gottlieb favors the version served at Golden Dragon at 6120 W. Tropicana Ave. ...

Here are more reader requests.

Misty Bowen: scuppernong or muscadine grapes, and fresh, hot boiled peanuts;

Bob Daniels: sweet red peppers (not roasted) in a jar, which he used to get at Albertsons;

Charles Weakland: restaurants that serve Indian fry bread;

Jo Marie Ferraro: a bakery that makes Italian pastries, similar to the now-closed Albina's;

Mandel M. Martinez: pickled red hots such as Truman's, Wikinger or Koegel's;

George Cohan: liquid artificial sweetener (sodium saccharine) in a dispenser bottle;

Peter Truscott: good breaded cod fillets - with more cod and less breading - that he can bake at home;

And Elliot Nelson: restaurants that serve Detroit-style spare ribs, which he said have to be torn off the bone, as opposed to falling off the bone.
