Old-fashioned seasoning rediscovered

Bell’s Poultry Seasoning is one of those old-fashioned things that’s difficult to find anymore — especially in this part of the country — but readers have spotted it for Joyce Hambacher.

Ann Brown found it at Glazier’s Food Marketplace at 8525 W. Warm Springs Road and the Jensens at Village Meat & Wine at 5025 S. Eastern Ave. emailed that they carry it, and Bell’s Stuffing as well. Dave Levesque found it at www.FamousFoods.com, and Patricia Lunn found it at www.Amazon.com.

One of these days we’ll be buying everything from cars to caskets at Amazon. ...

For Naomi Plisky, who’s looking for reader recommendations for restaurants that serve good roast duck, Jan Silverman recommended the Yukon Grille at Arizona Charlie’s Boulder (where, she said, “it’s crispy and has a wonderful cherry-orange sauce and it’s very reasonable”), adding that the restaurant is open Thursdays through Saturdays. Judi Granick recommended the roast duck at BBQ King at 5650 Spring Mountain Road and the Peking Duck at K.J. Kitchen at 5960 Spring Mountain Road, and Catherine Pawelek of Elements Kitchen & Martini Bar at 4950 S. Rainbow Blvd. serves a half roasted crispy duck with a pomegranate-blueberry reduction. ...

For Tobe Martin, who’s looking for liquid sugar for iced tea, Pam Crawford reported finding it at Wal-Mart. And Jim Gwinnup pointed out that it’s the same as simple syrup, which is available at large liquor stores and can be made by adding 2 cups of sugar to 2 cups of simmering water and stirring until the sugar is dissolved; cool and bottle. ...

For Alan Van Ees, who’s looking for Maxwell House Instant Coffee, which he used to get at Wal-Mart, Susan Kallen reported finding both regular and decaf at Walgreens. Bernd Klopfer said he’s seen it at Food 4 Less and still at Wal-Mart, although “at first I missed it because the lids had changed from a bright yellow to a dark blue.” ...
