Plenty of resources for frozen quail in valley

Some might quail at the idea of eating quail (sorry!) but it's a delectable little bird, and one that reader Bob Matzke is trying to find, either fresh or frozen.

Dean B. Pomerantz said he has never seen it fresh in Las Vegas, but that it's always available frozen at La Bonita Grocery Store, which has several locations in the valley, in "neat little six-packs or larger boxes." Ken and Patti Snow and David Black reported finding it frozen (along with other game) at Larry's Great Western Meats, 420 S. Valley View Blvd. Ron Lutz, owner of The Butcher Block, 7625 S. Rainbow Blvd., said he carries it as well (plus other game birds), and Chris Jensen, owner of Village Meat & Wine, 5025 S. Eastern Ave., said he carries whole quail, semi-boneless quail and marinated semi-boneless quail. ...

For Faith Elkman, who's looking for Smart Balance Spray, Jean Sider and Susie Folliard e-mailed that they found it at two different Albertsons stores. ...

For Pat Andrews, who is looking for melba sauce, Jensen said he carries red and black raspberry melba sauce. ...

For Helen Glassman, who's looking for low-sodium bouillon cubes, Rick Minard e-mailed that Trader Joe's sells a reduced-sodium liquid concentrate in individual packets, and "the flavor is much cleaner than bouillon cubes." ...

For William Devine II, who's looking for a replacement for Snapple Mint Tea, Jamison Blitstein e-mailed to recommend Honest Tea Moroccan Mint Tea, which he found at Smith's at 1421 N. Jones Blvd. ...

For Jack Bona, who's looking for hot Italian sausage patties, Sharon and Paul Carelli e-mailed that Whole Foods Markets sell "wonderful" fresh hot or mild Italian sausage made from pork or chicken, which can be purchased in the casing or without, for patties, and that Minuto's Italian Deli, 6160 W. Tropicana Ave., will make sausage to order without the casing. (They also noted that any Italian sausage can be removed from the casing to be formed into patties.) And Lutz said The Butcher Block carries fresh homemade Italian sausage patties in hot or mild. ...

More on sea bass: Lutz said he carries that as well. ...

More on caramel cake mix: Terry Tefertiller wrote that the Duncan Hines brand also can be found in this flavor at www.hometownfavorites. com (or call 888-694-2656). ...

Reader requests: Kathy Noetzel is looking for Italian-restaurant-style fresh, crisp garlic breadsticks. ...

John Fuhrman is looking for a local source for espresso coffee pods. ...

Bob Bagne is looking for frozen or fresh won tons already filled. ...

J.D. Fangonilo would like to find a bakery that sells burnt almond cake, similar to that from bakeries in San Jose, Calif. ...

And Guy Roark seeks reader suggestions for restaurants that serve a hot beef sandwich with good brown gravy and/or a hot turkey sandwich with good turkey gravy.
