Readers track down B&M products in valley
August 11, 2015 - 10:20 am
B&M products may be a challenge to find in Las Vegas but readers clearly think the hunt is worth it, if my mail is any indication. I received numerous replies to a query from Don Burleigh, who's looking for the company's baked beans and brown bread.
Nancy Fiorello, Ann Brown, Ray Patterson, Laura Crowton, Roberta Shulman and Eric Weingarten said Burleigh can find them at Glazier's Food Marketplace at 8525 W. Warm Springs Road, and Shulman said he also can find the beans at Vons. Alan Van Ees and Nancy Nolette found the beans at the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 2310 E. Serene Ave. and Nolette found them at Haggen at 1031 Nevada Highway.
CeCi Schreiber reported finding the bread at Winco; there are stores at 80 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson and 6101 N. Decatur Blvd. Sandi Mance found both at Albertsons at 1001 S. Rainbow Blvd. Colleen Sams found the bread at Haggen at 190 N. Boulder Highway in Henderson and Van Bohrer found the beans at Haggen at 7530 W. Lake Mead Blvd., and added, "If all else fails, www.bmbeans.com has all their products and where to find them." ...
For Marlena Hefner, who's looking for coconut custard — not coconut cream — pie, Cecilia Peluso suggested Pies Unlimited at 2465 W. Craig Road, which she said makes both coconut custard and coconut meringue (and she recommended calling to order the day before). And Brown reported finding it at Glazier's. ...
For Gary Lavey, who's looking for boxes of Kraft Spaghetti Tangy Italian, Sandra Ashenmil reported finding it at Wal-Mart at 5198 Boulder Highway. ...
And for Judy Bowen, Brown said Spanish chorizo can be found at La Bonita Supermarkets, of which there are five in the valley. ...
More on bulgur salads: Reader Vicki Lee Csizmadia sent this recipe, which she said is from a Better Homes & Gardens cookbook.
BULGUR-SPINACH SALAD
1 cup bulgur
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/4 cup red wine vinaigrette dressing
2 tablespoons snipped fresh parsley
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
6 cups torn fresh spinach
1 15-ounce can garbanzo beans (chickpeas), rinsed and drained
1 cup coarsely chopped apple
1/2 medium red onion, thinly sliced and separated into rings
3 tablespoons raisins (optional)
In a medium bowl, combine bulgur and boiling water. Let stand about 10 minutes, or until bulgur has absorbed all of the water. Cool 15 minutes.
For dressing, in a small mixing bowl stir together yogurt, vinaigrette, parsley and cumin.
In a large bowl, combine bulgur, spinach, garbanzo beans, apple, onion and raisins (if desired). Pour dressing over salad. Toss lightly to coat.
Serves 4.
