Responses bear heavy N.Y. accent

Ex-New Yorkers sure are loyal to their favorite foods; I hear from them more than expatriates of any other area. And for the second week in a row, we have responses for a reader looking for New York-centric items.

For Dorothy Bonacci, who's looking for Celentano's pastas and Polly-O ricotta and mozzarella, Ed Bordenka, Debbie Caponera and Barbara Tucker recommended Glazier's Food Marketplace at 8525 W. Warm Springs Road; Bordenka said Celentano's products also are available at Vons at 7405 S. Durango Drive.

Nancy Viscardi emailed that Celentano's products can be found at Walmart at 3615 S. Rainbow Blvd. and Polly-O cheeses at Rocco's N.Y. Italian Deli at 1181 S. Buffalo Drive; and Deana Daniels said she gets Polly-O ricotta and frozen cavatelli at Siena Foods, 1335 E. Sunset Road.

For readers looking for Progresso tomato products, Bud England and a couple of other readers pointed out that they've been discontinued, although parent company General Mills still makes other Progresso products. ...

More on New York-style pizza: Jeffrey Richman recommended Grimaldi's, which has multiple locations in the valley, and Joe's New York Style By the Slice Pizza ("fold away and watch the oil flow") at 7580 Las Vegas Blvd. South and 4480 Paradise Road. Bill Cartwright and Pearl Prunetta favor East West Pizzeria, 5025 S. Fort Apache Road; Colleen Sams said her family loves Mama de Palma's at 9845 S. Maryland Parkway.

In addition, Arthur Birnbaum and Barbara Steinman like Russo's at 4950 S. Rainbow Blvd.; Cathy Hanly recommended Montesano's at 9905 S. Eastern Ave.; Al Garth favors Upper Crust at 1910 Village Center Circle; and Mike and Dorris Fryer like Dal' Italian at 4722 E. Flamingo Road.

And we'll slip in a non-New York response: For Denise Gerski, who's looking for pomelos, they're in season now. Jennie Cicala emailed that she saw them at Sunflower Farmers Market at 3365 E. Tropicana Ave., and Colleen Sams at Albertsons at 2650 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. I've also seen them at Whole Foods Market.
