Tapioca search leads to China Town area

Joan Adams is looking for large and small -- but not Minute -- tapioca, and readers have several recommendations.

Thong Bartlett suggested checking the Asian markets in the China Town area, and reported finding large tapioca at S&F Supermarket at 5115 Spring Mountain Road. ("I like to add these big pearls in my tapioca pudding but be aware, you should soak and cook them a bit longer," Bartlett added.) Joelle Karonis reported finding the best prices at 99 Ranch Market at 4155 Spring Mountain Road or the International Marketplace, 5000 S. Decatur Blvd. And Toots Steffen said it can be ordered at www.AmericanSpice.com (or call 877-677-4239). ...

For Sandra Isaacson, who's looking for sponge candy, Heather King recommended www.BuffaloFoods.com (or call 716-892-5356). ...

For readers looking for hot sauces and spicy peanuts, Kathy Kensla e-mailed that her company, Golden Grille Hot Sauce, stocks them and has a kiosk at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, 3663 Las Vegas Blvd. South. ...

More on baker's ammonia: Sarah Eichelbarger said it's available at www.HouseOnTheHill.net (or call 877-279-4455). ...

And here, although we're at the 11th hour, are some holiday-related requests (and other requests):

Shirley Pier: someone who makes and sells springerle cookies

Janet Tonelli: frozen coconut

Mary Dean and Claudette Dorian: canned spiced whole peaches, sometimes available around Christmas

Keith Hosannah: cassareep, a West Indian cooking sauce made from cassava

Sharie Frencik: shrimp scampi sauce in a jar

Barb Cherewaty: Maui onion potato chips

Connie Hannon: a grocery store that carries gelato

Bonnie Wiezorek: canned sauerkraut juice

Pam Benjamin: frozen turkey balls that she used to get at Sam's Club

Jane Rosenberger: a local source for Kinder chocolate

Jim Enlow: Meadow Gold green chili dip

Gina Shroyer: Sun-Maid English Muffins, Hidden Valley Ranch Green Goddess Dressing Mix and Blue Bunny Banana Cream Pie ice cream
