Taste of the Town: Elusive kringle pastry easiest to find online
October 22, 2013 - 10:54 pm
Sometimes, although it may seem difficult to believe, a food item may not be available in this melting pot of a city of ours.
Case in point: kringle. When I recently received a query from Nancy Clark I wasn’t optimistic, since this has been a frequent request over the years. Then again, you never know when a kringle bakery is going to pop up, or some enterprising Wisconsin ex-pat is going to start importing the flaky ring-shaped pastry.
At any rate, I have three online recommendations from Taste of the Town readers. Patty Scheller Krysiak, a native of kringle-stronghold Racine, Wis., recommended BendtsensBakery.com (262-633-0365) and www.OHDanishBakery.com (800-709-4009), the latter of which also was recommended by near-Racine-native Rochelle Estill, who also recommended www.Kringle.com (800-432-6474). …
For Nell Ward, who’s looking for turkey and chicken necks for a dog’s raw-food diet, Ron Lutz of The Butcher Block, 7625 S. Rainbow Blvd. and 6440 N. Durango Drive, emailed that he carries both as well as backs, and can order breast cages. …
More on Sorelle creamy-garlic salad dressing: Fran Abbott emailed to add that besides Glazier’s, it can be found at some local farmers markets, where you can meet the sisters who make it, or at their website, www.SorelleLV.com (702-339-5243 or 702-688-0644).
