Taste of the Town: People passionate for Polly-O ricotta have options

Like Charlie Zizka, fellow reader Angelica Orme is passionate about her ricotta.

“Charlie Zizka has good taste,” she emailed. “It’s the best ricotta outside of homemade!”

The ricotta in question? Polly-O, for which Zizka has been searching, which led to him contacting Taste of the Town. Orme reported finding it at Smith’s, Pearl Prunetta and Angela Stroud found it at Glazier’s Food Marketplace at 8525 W. Warm Springs Road. (which also carries Polly-O mozzarella, Stroud pointed out) and Michele Bonelli found it at Cugino’s Italian Deli at 4550 S. Maryland Parkway, which, she added, also makes its own ricotta; she suggested calling 702-895-7561 two days in advance. …

For Lasurer Leverette, who’s looking for good-quality fresh or frozen veal cutlets, Andrea Drasner reported finding both — fresh at The Butcher Block, which has stores at 7625 S. Rainbow Blvd. and 6440 N. Durango Drive (and also was recommended by David Fleury) and frozen at Larry’s Great Western Meats, 429 S. Valley View Blvd. …

For readers looking for Limburger cheese, Claude Black emailed that the County Castle brand is available in 6-ounce bricks at the deli cheese counter at the commissary at Nellis Air Force Base, for those who have commissary privileges. …

More on Open Pit: Steve Weaver reported finding three varieties at Winco at 80 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson; there’s another Winco at 6101 N. Decatur Blvd. …

More on boquerones: Renee Passadore said they’re also available at Artisanal Foods at 2275 E. Sunset Road. …

And readers Michele Rambicur, who sent the initial tip, and Rich Johnson took me to task, and rightfully so, for saying last week that Penn Cove mussels hail from Coupeville, Wis., when they’re actually raised in Washington. Which makes a whole heck of a lot more sense.
