Taste of the Town: Roll down to these valley stores to find ciabatta treats

Last week, readers had suggestions for sources for pretzel rolls for Kathy Boland. This week, they’ve found the ciabatta rolls that Boland also is seeking (and a few more pretzel rolls).

Alison Rattigan, Kristine Segura and Chris Hudgins reported spotting ciabatta rolls at Trader Joe’s (which has four stores in the valley), where, Rattigan noted, they’re called “rustic rolls” and are sold with the other fresh-baked breads.

Beverly Rulli, Janet Miner and Ellen Dreyer found them at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores, and Gerry Baxter found pretzel rolls there as well.

Megan Hummel and Baxter said both ciabatta rolls and pretzel rolls are available at Costco stores.

Ellen Spiegel emailed that both are available at Great Buns Bakery, 3270 E. Tropicana Ave. And Roberta Shulman noted that Trader Joe’s sells pretzel rolls as well, as does Glazier’s Food Marketplace, 8525 W. Warm Springs Road. …

For Barbara Simonie, who’s looking for bakery-quality hot cross buns, Megan Hubble emailed that they’re available at Chef Flemming’s Bake Shop at 7 S. Water St. in Henderson, and Spiegel and Ann Brown said they’re also available at Great Buns. Brown said they also can be found at Freed’s Bakery, 955 S. Eastern Ave. …

For Betty Doughty and Lisa Tessmer, Brown said rye flour is available at www.KingArthurFlour.com. …

For Dona George, who’s looking for candied citron from a year-round source, Gloria Castricone — who uses it in Easter pastera but noted that “citron is not an easy product to find” — emailed that she stocks up after Christmas, when it’s usually marked down, and stores it in her freezer. …

More on lobster and eggs: Ruth Jagodzinski emailed that the Omelet House, which has three locations in the valley, serves a lobster omelet that’s big enough for two.

Tickets are on sale for the 40th anniversary celebration of UNLVino, which will take place April 9-12 at venues in Las Vegas. Events will start with Sip &Savor at Spago (The Forum Shops at Caesars), followed by a barbecue at the Caesars Palace Garden of the Gods Pool, Bubble-Licious at The Venetian (Doge’s Palace) and the Grand Tasting at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.
