Will Canelo-GGG hit a sales jackpot?

A raking of the scene in VegasVille, with Canelo-GGG expected to fill the house, a photo tribute to Jerry Lewis, and how an emerging entertainer factors into Elvis Presley’s legacy.

Sellout on the weigh

The greatest non-event on the Strip has to be the weigh-in for a championship fight. On Friday, about 10,000 fans streamed into MGM Grand Garden Arena to observe the highly consequential, but athletically, uneventful, ritual of stepping on a scale.

All the fighters on Saturday’s card stripped and stepped during the hourlong event. Predictably, fan fave Saul “Canelo” Alvarez drew explosive cheers from the largely Latino crowd. Eschewing pomp, Canelo took the stage sort of casually, just as ring announcer Michael Buffer was dramatically listing the career achievements of Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. (GGG should have his own slot machine, with the three Gs lining up for a jackpot. Someone get on that.)

Meanwhile, ticket sales for the fight have leveled off, as Friday afternoon’s prices were about $540 for upper-region seats and up to $7,000 for choice seats in the lower level. Some ringside seats had surpassed $20,000, and if you’re paying that much, you have too much money.

Prices posted on the secondary market are down about 20 percent from original face value — and brokers are saying that’s to be expected as the fight was originally over-priced. Those same experts are expecting a full house, surpassing the less-than-capacity 14,623 for the Aug. 26 Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor bout.

In his most recent fight, against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in May, Canelo drew a clean sellout of 20,510. I’d expect something like that number Saturday.

Lewis in frames

Jerry Lewis loved a good fight. He also loved photography.

The late entertainment legend is the subject of a photo exhibit at Las Vegas Convention Center. The collection of vintage photos covers Lewis’s days with Dean Martin, as well as his final performance last October at South Point Showroom.

Veteran Vegas photographer Sam Morris snapped those final images at South Point, including a series of black-and-white photos with a large-format, 4x5 film camera. Lewis grabbed his Canon EOS Rebel that night to take a couple of photos of Morris shooting back at him. Lewis was a master photographer whose original work was the subject of the “Painted Pictures” exhibition at UNLV’s Marjorie Barrick Museum in 2014.

The LVCC display is to be open to the public through the end of the year.

Daniel, Linda … and you

Daniel Emmet, a bonafide emerging star in this city, headlines The Space at 7 p.m. Sunday. He’s bringing the whole package, too, with music director Jerry Williams (bandleader for Donny & Marie at Flamingo Las Vegas), and stage director Barry Lather (who has worked with Usher, Beyonce, Carrie Underwood and directed this year’s Miss America pageant show from Atlantic City).

Emmet is toggling contemporary classics with originals, including a collaboration with Linda Thompson, ex-girlfriend of Elvis in the early 1970s. The song is “Once In a Lifetime,” which Emmet and Williams performed Wednesday night at The Composers Showcase of Las Vegas at Myron’s Cabaret Jazz.

Thompson, ex-wife of Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner), and later producer David Foster, is also mother of Brody Jenner. She was introduced to Emmet by songwriter Keith Thomas, a frequent collaborator of Thompson’s who also helped with the tune.

Emmet has also headlined at Cabaret Jazz, in a show featuring Phil Fortenberry as music director. But the production at The Space is going to be comparably expansive, with 23 performers, total, onstage at one time or another.

Know this title

During Wednesday’s TCS performance, co-founder and emcee Keith Thompson announced a new show set for VegasVille: “The Cocktail Cabaret.” No venue yet specified (I’ll guess a Caesars Entertainment venue, because someone has to), but Thompson summoned the show’s killer cast: Eric Jordan Young (“Rock of Ages” and “Vegas! The Show”), Nicole Kaplan (“Steve Wynn’s Showstoppers”), Niki Scalera (“Peepshow” and her own Shirley Bassey tribute), Emmet and Fortenberry. Thompson is giddy about this show, so we’re eager to hear more.

Killers and boxing

Returning to the topic of combat sports mixed with entertainment, The Killers debuted a new song “Tyson vs. Douglas,” from the band’s upcoming album “Wonderful Wonderful” at Live Music Hall in Cologne, Germany on Friday. As the title indicates, the song is inspired by Mike Tyson’s shocking loss to James “Buster” Douglas in Tokyo in 1990.

Front man Brandon Flowers has said the hard-hitting rocker is a warning to heroes who feel invincible, and how he hopes his sons Ammon (age 9), Gunnar (7) and Henry (6) will never see him KO’d.

What Works In Vegas

Jeff Dunham at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. A recurring headliner in the 4,298-seat venue, Dunham just finished a brisk-selling, 15-show run at Caesars on Wednesday night. He returns Dec. 6 on his “Passively Aggressive” U.S. tour. Tickets are on sale Monday. Dunham’s latest Netflix special, “Jeff Dunham: Relative Disaster” is due on Netflix this month.

And on Thursday, Dunham receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Dunham jokes about moving out to Los Angeles in 1988 with “a car full of clothes and a couple of dummies.” Dunham is speaking of his puppets, of course. I think.

Who Was Where

Flavor Flav, grinning in gold and wearing a timepiece necklace stuck at 6 o’clock, at Oscar Goodman’s Dinner Series talk on Thursday night at Oscar’s Beef, Booze & Broads … William Shatner dining with Dennis Bono and Lorraine Hunt-Bono at Bootlegger Bistro on Wednesday. Shatner is in town for the High Roller Reining Classic equine event at South Point, and was joined by Michael Horn, owner of CRN Broadcasting, which airs Bono’s weekly variety show each Thursday from South Point Showroom. Bono’s new CD, “To Laugh, To Love, To Live,” is going into rotation on the Sirius XM’s Siruisly Sinatra Channel 71.
