Local artists exhibit works at museum

The 56th annual Art Roundup Juried Exhibition continues today and Saturday at the Las Vegas Art Museum, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The exhibition, which runs through Aug. 25, features a selection of 43 works produced by 36 Nevada artists.

This year's event includes paintings, sculptures, photos, videos, works on paper and watercolors.

Art Roundup was open to all Nevada residents and each artist could submit up to five slides or digital images of work made since 2002 to be considered for exhibition.

A record number of submissions were judged by Los Angeles-based artist Matty Byloos, a professor at East Los Angeles College.

The Las Vegas Art Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and is closed Sundays and Mondays.

Artist reception set for Left of Center

An opening reception for "What I See and How I See It," an art exhibit at Left of Center Gallery featuring paintings and illustrations by Joseph Watson, will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at 2207 W. Gowan Road in North Las Vegas.

Watson explores urban scenes that depict everyday people. His sepia paintings and black and white renderings present story-driven scenes.

The exhibit, which runs through Oct. 30, is free.

Regular gallery hours are from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
