Dam festival showcases short films

If you love movies but lack either the attention span or the bladder for this year's best picture Oscar nominees - whose average running time is a butt-numbing 135 minutes - consider the Dam Short Film Festival.

The ninth annual fest kicks off at 11 a.m. Wednesday and concludes with an awards gala at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 9.

In between, a record 146 films, grouped into 25 themed programs, will be screened at the Boulder Theatre, 1225 Arizona St., in Boulder City.

Seven films from Las Vegas filmmakers will be shown at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 8.

Additionally, six filmmakers will participate in a panel discussion at 1:45 p.m. Feb. 9.

Tickets to each program of films are $7, one-day passes are $30 and four-day passes are $75. Tickets are available at the theater box office and online at www.damshortfilm.org.
