Latest DVDs, CDs, books: Aug. 30

A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week:

DVDS

"Madea's Big Happy Family" (PG-13): Writer-director Tyler Perry returns as feisty grandma Madea, dishing out more tough love while tackling family problems.

In Disney's "Prom" (PG), wholesome dreams come true for the straight-arrow good girl (Aimee Teegarden), the awkward misfit (Nicholas Braun), even the motorcycle-riding rebel (Thomas McDonell) with the heart of gold. It's back to the '80s in the nostalgic "Skateland" (PG-13), where dramatic events force the 19-year-old manager of a small-town skating rink (Shiloh Hernandez) to look at life in a new way. On the foreign-language front, Danish director Susanne Bier's Oscar-winning "In a Better World" (R) focuses on a Scandinavian doctor (Mikael Persbrandt) whose work at an African refugee camp triggers problems for his wife and children back home. And the food-for-thought documentary "Forks Over Knives" (PG) argues that our health -- and the health of the planet -- would improve if we confined our diets to plants.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, "I'm With You": They're with you, but John Frusciante isn't with them.

On their latest disc, and first in six years, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are without their aforementioned longtime guitarist, who left the band in 2008.

With new six-stringer Josh Klinghoffer in the fold, the group penned a whopping 60-70 songs, by their estimation .
