B.B. King joining Peter Frampton for ‘Guitar Circus’

B.B. King will be in his own backyard for a change when “Frampton’s Guitar Circus” rolls into town.

Friday’s show at the Las Vegas Hotel features the Las Vegas guitar legend, who turns 88 on Sept. 16, sharing the stage with 63-year-old Peter Frampton, who became synonymous with the “talk box” in the 1970s.

The two play separate sets, but teamed up together for King’s signature song, “The Thrill is Gone,” on at least one previous date, in Virginia on Aug. 11.

The “Circus” runs for four hours or more in other cities. Though it will be more succinct in a casino venue, there is still room for “special guest” Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots, which means he is likely to show up during Frampton’s set rather than having a full one of his own.

Frampton still anchors his set with the extended jams of his big album, 1976’s “Frampton Comes Alive.” But the show stopper of recent gigs has been his cover of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.”
