Clap your hands with Fitz and the Tantrums

Earlier in the month, L.A.’s Fitz and the Tantrums opened for Bruno Mars at the MGM Grand, a fitting pairing: Both look to the past in an attempt to dominate pop music’s present.

But Fitz and the Tantrums tone down the overt ’60s R&B references on their 2010 debut, “Pickin’ Up The Pieces,” favoring electronics a bit more on their dance floor-friendly latest record, “More Than Just a Dream.”

The bleating horns, soul diva vocals and gospel-choir levels of hand-clapping remain, only now they don’t eschew modernity like they do guitars.
