Eric Church playing Primm

Las Vegas has bench marks to measure the fast track of Eric Church's career.

In April, Church played the "Fan Jam" annex to the Academy of Country Music Awards show as a Best New Artist nominee. He lost to The Band Perry.

But in August, Church's "Chief" album rocketed to No. 1 on Billboard's overall (not just country) album chart. His outlaw sensibility makes a nice contrast to the country popsters, going down old-school roads with lyrics such as "Jack Daniels kicked my ass again last night" or "She got a rock and I'm getting stoned."

Now Church is headlining his own arena show, albeit beyond the bright lights of the Strip at the Star of the Desert arena at Buffalo Bill's, Interstate 15 South at Primm. Tickets for the show at 8 p.m. Saturday are $49.95-$79.95; call 1-800-386-7867.
