George Clinton bringing the funk

Halloween doesn't have to be all gruesome zombies or sexy sirens. It can be Dr. Funkenstein, flanked by a guy in a diaper with a toilet seat on his head. In fact, any night when George Clinton's mother ship touches down kind of becomes Halloween.

If today's show at Fiesta Rancho, 2400 N. Rancho Drive, is anything like last year's at Red Rock Resort, some of Clinton's two dozen or so Funkateers might not squeeze onto the Club Tequila stage. Last year's multigenerational band included rapping granddaughters, alongside veteran Parliament-Funkadelic members such as guitarist Michael Hampton.

Clinton celebrated his 70th birthday last summer with a "Funkabration" in lower Manhattan. Dr. Funkenstein is eternal.

The funk gets ready to roll at 8 p.m. today at Club Tequila at Fiesta Rancho. Tickets are $35; call 547-5300. Bring your Bop Gun.
