Guitarist Jonny Lang playing show at Rocks Lounge

At some point, young guitar-slingers become the seasoned bluesmen they emulate, and Jonny Lang is now cited as an influence by early "American Idol" favorite Phillip Phillips.

Lang will ring in his 31st birthday on Sunday, after playing the Rocks Lounge at Red Rock Resort on Saturday night. The Fargo, N.D., native started playing guitar at age 12, and cracked the big time with "Lie to Me" in 1997.

He hasn't had an album since a 2009 live set, but did turn up as a guest star on recent albums by Cyndi Lauper and Carlos Santana, teaming up with the latter on "I Ain't Superstitious."

After reacquainting himself at the Silverton last year, Lang goes deeper into the suburbs with his 8 p.m. show at 11011 W. Charleston Blvd. Tickets are $40.50-$84.50; call 547-5300.
