Walt Boenig Band plans concert at Bruce Trent Park

The Walt Boenig Band will present a free jazz concert at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bruce Trent Park, 8851 Vegas Drive.

Sponsored by the city of Las Vegas, the concert will feature the eight-member band in a performance on the brightly colored Arts Connection showmobile, which will be on the east side of the park.

Boenig's career as a professional trombonist included such road bands as the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Harry James Orchestra and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra as well as performing with Tom Jones on his South Africa tour.

Since arriving in Las Vegas in the mid-'70s, he has performed with the house bands at many hotels on and off the Strip, including the Silver Slipper, the Desert Inn, the "Lido de Paris" at the Stardust and in the musical "Chicago" at Mandalay Bay. Since 1981, Boenig has led his own bands, tailoring each group of professional musicians to meet the occasion.
