6 things to do in downtown Las Vegas this week

■ Slam poetry performances and open mic at The Beat in the Emergency Arts building, 520 Fremont St., happen from 7 to 10 p.m. every second and fourth Friday of the month. Come back to the coffeehouse at 6 p.m. Wednesdays for trivia.

■ Watch Los Angeles’ Death Valley Girls for free in the back room of the Griffin, 511 Fremont St., at 10 p.m. Friday. Local Party Animals and No Tides open the show, and DJ Fish will take over once it ends.

■ Neon Reverb takes over Beauty Bar, 517 Fremont St., starting at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, for $15. Catch headliners Sage Francis on Friday, as well as Phil A & Hassan Hamilton and Ekoh. On Saturday, the Tijuana Panthers headline after Haunted Summer and The Astaires.

■ Performers of NPR’s “Tiny Desk” concert series, City Folk play the Art District’s Artifice, 1025 First St., at 9 p.m. Friday. There’s no cover for the show.

■ Students ages 9 to 13 can learn to write, rehearse and film a pilot for a YouTube Web series in a Codex workshop at The Writer’s Block from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays in March. It’s free, but pre-registration is required. The book shop is located at 1020 Fremont St.

■ Toss a few back with “Geeks Who Drink” at Gold Spike, 217 Las Vegas Blvd., from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays. Every other night of the week, enjoy dancing or a game of four square in the backyard.
