Lavo offers variety of environments including nightclub, lounge, restaurant

Think of Lavo at the Palazzo as a sort of the little sister to Tao at The Venetian.

The clubs are operated by the same people but, like any siblings, they do have their own personalities. Most notably: Lavo, at about 4,500 square feet, is smaller than its bigger sib and is designed, co-owner Lou Abin says, to offer a more intimate vibe to its guests.

Lavo's name comes from the Latin verb for "bathe" or "wash" and, Abin says, "was designed to play off of the theme of a Roman bathhouse."

Many of the club's design features -- sweeping archways, tile work, decorative basins and even the club's artwork -- speak to that.

Lavo differs from many Las Vegas nightclubs in that it offers a variety of environments to clubgoers. First, there's the nightclub space itself, where, Abin says, the mood is "high-energy" and music is provided by DJs who "play a mix of hip-hop and mashups to Top 40."

Then, there's a downstairs restaurant, an adjoining ultra lounge and an outdoor patio area that overlooks the Strip.

The net effect, Abin says, is that guests at Lavo can enjoy "a full dining and nightclub experience."

Doors open at 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 p.m. Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Cover is $20, and locals are admitted free Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
