LAX at Luxor still a place to spot celebrities

Just about every high-profile Las Vegas nightclub serves double duty as a place for celebrities to party and mingle. And, of the city's combination nightclub/celebrity magnets, LAX was one of the first and still ranks as one of the most reliable.

From the very start -- Britney Spears hosted the club's grand-opening party on Aug. 31, 2007 -- LAX has made frequent appearances in area gossip columns for its roster of celebrity guests. In the past few months alone, for instance, UFC star Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Sean Combs, Kendra Wilkinson Baskett, Eve and Big Boi were reported to have stopped by, while LAX last August served as the location of the official Miss Universe pageant after-party.

The 26,000-square-foot LAX, located at Luxor, 3900 Las Vegas Blvd. South, features a variety of rich textures in a mostly black-and-red color scheme. Design touches include leather seats, wrought-iron railings and 50-foot-tall curtains. And while it holds about 1,500 people, the layout is designed to prevent LAX from feeling too cavernous.

Amenities include what Angel Management Group, the club's operator, describes as a state-of-the-art lighting system and about 70 tables. VIP booths are available, although many celebs who stop by do take advantage of the open surroundings.

The music, spun by both resident and visiting DJs, includes Top 40, house and hip-hop. Beginning Feb. 23, every Wednesday night will be house night, during which DJ Sharam will hold down a monthly residency.

LAX opens at 10 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and industry night is Wednesday, when locals get in free with a local ID. Otherwise, cover is $30 for men and $20 for women. For more information, call 262-4529.
