Rain nightclub dedicates Fridays to electro music to create fresh vibe

Rain is among the largest and oldest nightclubs in Las Vegas, but "we still kill it every Friday and Saturday," says spokesman Jimmy Aston.

The 25,000-square-foot club opened in 2001 at the Palms and has been a celebrity magnet ever since. To keep the vibe fresh, management plans to tweak a few things in the new year.

Fridays will be branded as Clash Fridays, a night full of electro music, a subgenre of club music that is exploding on both coasts, Aston says. Resident DJs, including DJ Diplo, will headline the night, which Aston expects to be popular with 20-somethings.

"Electro is doing more numbers bodywise than regular house music," Aston says. With the crowds growing, Rain will provide fans with a weekly supply throughout 2011.

Celebrity DJ Paul Oakenfold has been renewed as resident DJ and will continue his popular Perfeceto Saturdays, Aston says. Each week, audio and video effects transform the club into a spaceship that lifts off at midnight. Oakenfold spins remixes, mash-ups, hip-hop and more while live performers dance and perform aerial acts.

The sound and light systems will also get a $1.2 million upgrade and renovation by April. Motorized LED screens are planned, as is a scissor lift DJ booth.

The club is open from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. Fridays and Saturday. Cover charge is $40 at the door, $30 in advance.

The dress code is relaxed; no shorts or tank tops for men. Women, however, "can practically wear whatever they want," Aston says.
